Apple decided to install their streaming service on my phone, it's too buggy for me to likely keep it past the free trial, but in the meantime I'm listening to a bit more stuff than I usually do, in particular Taylor Swift. Poptmism is all well and good, but it arrived a bit too late, Red is a lot better than 1989.

For some reason I've been revisiting a load of the fuzzy guitars / punk-pop indie bands that I used to love in the late 90s - Snug, Tiger and especially Silver Sun, whose album 'Disappear Here' is absolutely fantastic. There's probably plenty of nostalgia wrapped into my enjoyment but they were all good bands who never did as well as they should have done (although I believe Silver Sun were quite popular in Japan).

Also spinning: The War on Drugs-Lost in the Dream, Seryn-Shadow Shows, St. Paul and the Broken Bones-Half the City, Alabama Shakes-Sound and Color, Leon Bridges-Coming Home, My Morning Jacket-The Waterfall, San Fermin-Jackrabbit, and Waxahatchee-Ivy Tripp.

I'm totally into a rapper called Astronautalis. His two most recent albums, This Is Our Science and Pomegrenate, are simply amazing. It's more alternative Hip Hop, he experiments with many different styles of music and his lyrics are some of the best I've heard recently.

I keep listening to a bunch of new stuff from the Revivalists on YouTube, whining like a sad puppy while I wait for their album to come out Friday. They're from New Orleans and have a pretty jazzy-rock style that I absolutely love.

I'm always kinda behind, so I'm not really listening to much that's new, but I did get tickets to see Godspeed! You Black Emperor! in September! I'm super stoked! We got to see Thee Silver Mt. Zion last year and it was a great show in a tiny venue.

I've only heard the album before those two, 'The Mighty Ocean and Nine Dark Theaters'. I thought it was okay. Would you say those other two albums are a big step up? If so, I'll give him another shot.

Unfortunately my only Godspeed! live experience was a bit of a dud, I traveled a long way to see them and then the venue wasn't great and the friend I was with was in a terrible mood and kept whinging at me all the way through the show, which kind of ruined it. I hope I get the chance to see them again at some point.

It's summer and that means "The Raveonettes" are playing constantly as well as a band called "Federale" which I discovered trough the "A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night" Soundtrack

I was a little leery before we went to SMZ, just because, well, they seem prickly, but Efram was super engaging with the crowd and made some jokes and it was a great experience. It was a super tiny venue, though. The place we're going in September is still small, but not a basement like the other joint, so we'll see.
