Seeing a guy "from the future" whip out a MiniDisc player in Timecop the other day made me think, there've been a lot of sci-fi movie "predictions" that turned out not to reflect where things were going - nothing new there - but there's a certain smug satisfaction to be had in seeing it take the form of a product placement, an insistence that this product will be all the rage in the future, and then that product flops, rendering its placement forever a marker of a kind of parallel timeline. Maybe the MiniDisc never took off, but it's amusing to briefly see an alternate history where it did.
The only other one I can think of offhand is the XFL in The 6th Day.

The entire plot revolves around MiniDiscs in Strange Days! I was a pretty heavy adopter of that particular technology so I always enjoy seeing it pop up in the movies, if only because it makes me feel like I was right, and everyone else was wrong.
